THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE
MARTINSVILLE, VA

The National Trust for Historic Preservation in partnership with the Rural Heritage Development Initiative were seeking ways to inspire and promote the rehabilitation and continued use of older and historic properties in Martinsville, Virginia. Specifically, the buildings surrounding the historic courthouse square.

The firm of Michael Gioulis was hired to prepare facade renderings for six buildings located within the courthouse square as well as a streetscape capturing the historic ambiance of the square.

Working closely with individual property owners and other stakeholders within the community, these drawings represent that vision.

A public exhibit of the renderings along with some historic mementoes was held on September 7, 2007 at the Piedmont Arts Center in Martinsville, Virginia. It is hoped that these renderings will inspire property owners and others to rehabilitate their buildings within a historic preservation context.
